As we approach the end of the course, reflect on the texts, discussions, and concepts explored in Multicultural Literature. What is one significant lesson about culture or identity that has stood out to you? Explain why this lesson is meaningful and analyze how it connects to your own experiences or perspective.

Prompt Response: One significant lesson about culture and identity that stood out to me is how stereotypes shape the way people are seen and treated. This course exposed me to many things I didn’t know before, especially how literature connects to culture and real-life experiences. I was especially interested in how stereotypes are shown in films, like how women are often portrayed in limited ways, which made me think more critically about media. I also enjoyed the mask activity because it showed how identity has both visible and hidden parts that stay with us throughout our lives. This lesson is meaningful to me because it helped me better understand myself and others.

Prompt: Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

As Celie’s world expands in these letters, she begins noticing new things about the people in her life. Write about a moment when you suddenly noticed something funny, shocking, or unexpected about someone you see every day (a family member, a classmate, or even a teacher). How did that new discovery change the way you saw them?

These letters show how Celie learns from the people around her, even in small ways. Think of someone in your life who influences you in a positive, everyday way—a friend, relative, teacher, or teammate. Write about what you’ve learned from them and how their influence shows up in your daily life.
